Lucy Markovic, the Australian model who gained prominence as the runner-up on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2015, has died at the age of 27 due to complications from a rare brain condition known as arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Her family confirmed her passing on April 10, 2025, via Instagram, stating that she died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on January 19, 1998, in Australia, Markovic grew up on the Gold Coast and was of Croatian heritage. She began her modeling career at a young age, appearing in a Colgate toothpaste campaign before gaining national attention on Australia’s Next Top Model. At just 16, she impressed judges Jennifer Hawkins and Alex Perry with her poise and talent, ultimately finishing as the season’s runner-up.
Following her success on the show, Markovic signed with several prestigious modeling agencies, including Elite New York City, Select Model Management Paris and London, Fabbrica Milano Management, and Kult Australia. Her career flourished as she walked for renowned fashion houses such as Versace, Givenchy, Emporio Armani, and Victoria Beckham. Frustrated with her treatment options in Australia, she sought specialized care in Berlin, where she underwent surgery on April 2, 2025. Despite initial signs of success, Markovic fell into a coma due to severe brain swelling and passed away on April 5.
